3. Tricount: best completely free option, especially in Europe

Best for: anyone whose only criterion is a full-featured app with no paid tier.

Tricount was acquired by the Dutch bank bunq, which discontinued Tricount Premium and made the previously paid features free. That makes Tricount one of the few full-featured splitters with no paid tier at all. You create a tricount, share the link, and everyone adds expenses; a free bunq virtual card can even add card purchases automatically.

The trade-offs: signup now runs through a bunq account, CSV and PDF export were removed when Premium was retired, and there is no receipt scanning and no recurring expenses.
